Never Envisioning a Greater Racial Oppression

ree

So, we've discussed percentages and statistics when it comes to the black man and police officers. A common reaction to intimidation would be reflecting your own insecurities onto someone else. Don’t get me wrong, there are times when we as human being are wrong and have made a mistake but that thing that makes us the most human is our integrity, our reaction to situations, and the state of mind we decide to incarnate. But when you have an opinion on something it could be considered a bias.

We understand the conditions that allow viruses to spread unconditionally but what exactly explains police violence? Does it stem from officers implicit or explicit bias because it has to be something deeper than just the surface? Both perspectives acknowledge the structural and institutional nature of racism. Explicit bias is the thought that suggests police just have an active disregard for black lives. Explicit bias would suggest that the way a police man was trained to automatically associate black skin with some sort of danger or criminality, unconsciously causing them use harsher force on someone with dark skin.

Whether it be implicit or explicit bias the explanation can be a distinction without much difference. Combating police violence isn’t necessarily about figuring out the motivations of individuals but about understanding how a network of government funded affiliations can create such a persistent terror in black communities. Understanding the conditions that allow this horrific behavior to be shown, such as killing a man over $20. It's imperative to look closer at the conditions that signal police to feel the authority to treat black people with disregard and extreme brutality with little to no consequence. When your back is again the wall, what’s left to do but fight? Next week, ill dive into the different type of revolutions in order to better dissect which path is most conducive for today’s revolt, this and more next week.

Thank you,

JP
