HOUSTON – The tolls continue to rise during the coronavirus pandemic and the ability to pass the virus is easier than some expected. Businesses are being forced to do something differently in order to sustain the safety of their employees.
It’s essential to follow the guidelines and rules set into place in order for most businesses to remain afloat, even though they virus is causing the companies that are still open to lose money in some aspects. It’s been difficult for their employees to adapt their lifestyles and their work load but many have no choice but to make it work.
An MCFA employee, Claire Barrett, has recently been asked to complete her work load from home. Being that she is an IT representative her ability to work anywhere transfers easily and is conducive when it comes to getting things complete from the comfort of her own kitchen.
“My workplace where we have about 360 office employees and I’m a part of the IT organizations we had to make sure we had everything in place so that our office staff could effectively and efficiently work from home, it went very well and we’ve been pleased with their ability to adapt and utilize the collaboration tools put in place, “Barrett said.
While some people are allowed the opportunity to work from home, which means they are able to keep their job and continue to strive forward because they see hope past this whole pandemic., others are not as lucky.
A lot more people than usual are being furloughed or laid off in order for the business to either cut their losses or allow their employee to at least file for unemployment during a situation as serious as this
Bernette Telemaque, a former independent contractor has been forced to take a lay off during this time. It’s hard for her to make serves and do the job that she has been doing for years due to the fact that this is a worldwide pandemic.
“Well I’ve been laid off “Telemaque said “my income has been interrupted, my means of doing anything that is remotely close to normal has stopped. I am really concerned because every day the tolls are going up and its very disturbing to me because we dong know what tomorrows going to bring.”
People are finding healthy and effective ways to spend their down time, which includes taking care of unfinished projects around the house, cooking, cleaning and even exercising. Going for a walk has deems successful to clear one’s mind in the midst of all this chaos
“People tend to think it's relatively hard to work from home you really have to take time to take a break, get outside, get some fresh air and then get started again because now you work more,” Barrett said.
Details are continuing to unfold as the situation gets more serious but it’s important to continue to practice social distancing in order to keep yourself and your family from being negatively affected by this virus. Stay safe and stay informed.
