The coronavirus pandemic is beginning to take a toll on not only working-class citizens but also the kids who are missing out on school due to the virus. Kids as well as adults registered in higher education are being forced to attend school from home via online classes as well as homeschooling.
In order to surpass this pandemic its essential to make sure that you practice social distancing which means that students are no longer to attend their classes. This change of pace has had either a positive or negative affect on the student in particular.
Father of a young student, Daryl Turbinton, has been forced to buckled down and make sure that his kids maintain the learning curve they have set out to accomplish and don’t miss a lesson in between
“The kids aren’t used to being homeschooled by me and my wife,” Turbinton said, “they are used to the teachers making sure they are doing something every day in the curriculum but really more of life experiences.”
The parents have found the ability to teach their children things they have learned so long ago a little difficult. They are finding themselves to be re teaching and re learning topics they once thought they would never need again. Some find it difficult having their kids at home at all times of the day because they don’t think they are contributing the same efforts that a properly educated teacher could offer them.
“Just trying to keep them aware and make sure they know what’s going on right now,” Turbinton said.
The kids in particular feel as if they are missing the social side of school. Some wish to return as soon as possible while others have not been directly affected by this change and prefer learning from the comfort of their own home.
Macy Turbinton, daughter of Daryl Turbinton has her own reservations on how she feels about being homeschooled and prefers that she learns directly from her teachers as opposed to her father and step-mother.
“I don’t know to be honest I don’t like it, I’d rather be at school,” Macy said.
It is tough to determine what is conducive during this time and it’s safe to say that everyone learns differently and their reaction to this quarantine differ in so many ways. For some this has had a positive affect allowing the student to get one on one time which might be necessary for some, while other feel they are losing their social skills and require more attention from other students in order to maintain their growth. There is not correct answer as we continue to learn more about ourselves each and every day, just keep adapting, stay positive, stay informed and stay educated.
